Value driven processes
It is increasingly understood that a transformation of the way the construction sector works is a key to necessary changes within the built environment in Europe. The procedures by which the sector develops, produces and delivers products and services to end users and clients are fragmented, inefficient and specified through technical details rather than functions. The innovation rate and productivity increase are extremely low in comparison with most other sectors. Process issues have a significant impact on every phase of idea development, planning, procurement, design, construction, maintenance and deconstruction. It spans over many disciplines such as management, economy, technology as well as socio-economics, behaviour science, medicine etc. A focus on process development will have significant economical, social and political impact and is of equal importance for end users, political systems and industry.
The objective of the program will be to enhance the deliveries of the leading sector actors by improving:
- Customer/client life cycle values for the money spent.
- Sustainability in terms of resources and environmental impact.
- Society economic growth as well as competitiveness within the sector.
The program will be proposed to be divided into five subprograms clustering similarities in research disciplines and stakeholder specific interests.
- Requirements: behaviour science, health, socio-economics, sustainability, architectural design, as well as spatial planning and acceptance processes.
- Industrialisation: design, production and operation technology, materials technology, installations, logistics, maintenance, repair, planning and monitoring.
- Business models: economy, organisation, management and e-commerce.
- Management of information: information and communication technologies (ICT), building information models, interoperability, project planning.
- Holistic process: combining elements of the previous four program areas.
